Background
In September 2019 "bazaar europa" went on a theatre-roadtrip through Ukraine to fill the white spot on their inner map of Europe. More than five years after "maidan" and with the war on the border to Russia still going on, the ensemble wanted to find out about their european neighbour in the east. Interested in Ukraine as the place where East meets West in the most immediate way, "bazaar europa" travelled for two weeks through Ukraine by train, visiting the cities Lviv, Kiev, Kharkiv an Dnipro.

Part 1: The Roadtrip
2019
In september 2019 the ensemble of ogalala went on a self-initiated road-trip across Ukraine in search of those stories that were not yet to be read in the media. „11 Questions to Ukraine“ led us to cities as diverse as Lviv, Kyiv, Kharkiv and Dnipro, got us to meet many different people and even offered us the chance to get on a stage at the Festival of Contemporary Art GOGOLFEST in Dnipro.

ParadeFest Kharkiv
In Kharkiv we contributed to the Art Festival Parade-Fest (18.-23.9.2019) with a small street performance The Town Musicians [11 Questions to Ukraine], re-interpreting the anarchic upheaval of the four death-sentenced animals to a corrupt élite and relate it to conditions of ourselves and our times.

GOGOLFEST DniPro

In the second week of our trip we stayed and worked as artists-in-residence for the international Festival of Contemporary Art GOGOLFEST in Dnipro. The Vision of GOGOLFEST ist to create a new cultural narrative for the country and connect it to the world.

Our contribution for the GOGOLFEST extended our street performance "The Town Musicians [11 Questions to Ukraine]" to a full program, working in our experiences of the trip.

Part 2: MARIUPOL RHAPSODY
2020
After our theatre-roadtrip through Ukraine in September 2019 and an artist-residency and live-performance at GOGOLFEST in Dnipro, we made new plans for 2020. Together with the independent theatre company TEATROMANIA Mariupol and the Festival of Contemporary Art GOGOLFEST we are laying the ground for the international Co-Production „Mariupol Rhapsody“, happening in 2021.
Our travel around Ukraine

Under the title “11 questions to Ukraine I 11 питань до України” and supported by a small crowd-funding-campaign, ogalala kreuzberg travelled by train through the vast country of Ukraine to get to know their european neighbours and to search for interesting stories.

In their two-week-trip, the ensemble of ogalala kreuzberg visited the cities Lviv, Kyiv, Kharkiv and Dnipro.
